Don Drummond
For any SKA fanatic Don Drummond’s name is uttered with reverence. He started his career in the fifties, with his first recording being Owen Grey’s On The Beach for Studio One. But he soon grew into a phenomenal composer and player whose influence is still felt today, and guided the Far East sound of many Roots recordings. Drummond was a founding member of the Skatalites who helped define the Ska era. He lived a troubled life ending up dying in the Bellevue mental institution after being convicted of killing his girlfriend the dancer Margarita Mahfoof in 1965.
