Skatalites

The Skatalites were the dominant force in the Ska era having Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Lester Sterling and Roland Alphonso on horns. It was an unbeatable combination. Add Lloyd Knibbs on drums, Jackie Mittoo on piano Jah Jerry on guitar and Lloyd Brevette on bass and you have Jamaica’s first supergroup. They operated as Clement Dodd’s house band, mainly due to his close friendship with Alphonso. While they recorded for other producers, who used the facilities at Studio One, it is really their recordings for the label that are their most memorable.
